Jørem fishing field in Namsen.
Steffen and I had for a long time looked forward to go to Jørem to try salmonfishing there. We had never fished in Namsen before, so we thought it will be very exiting to try out a new river. I met Jenny and Sven Åge Domås at Villmarksmessa a couple years ago, and I got a invitation to come to their fishingcamp and try salmonfishing from their fishing field. I really wanted to do this, because Steffen and I had for a long time talked much about trying new salmon rivers in Trøndelag. When I told Steffen that we were going to Jørem, he answered; "When do we travel?"
The summer after this talk with Steffen we were finally heading to river Namsen. Our plan was to fish in several rivers on our way north, and this was going to be a really nice boys-trip! We, two "hardcore Gaula-fishermen", have to admit that the north part of Trøndelag offers really great salmonfishing, and we began to make plans for the next season already before we got home from this trip.
When we arrived Jørem in a glorious summer weather we were made very welcome by Jenny and Sven Åge and we were given a tour in the house we was going to live in. They had remodelled it itself and the house looked very good. We should probably find tranquillity here. Nice rooms and great beds beds made sure we were well rested for today's fishing.
After a short "coffee-break" and a lot of great information about fishing in this river, we sat up our rods and started fishing. We were very exited about fishing in river Namsen, because the river is a typical "boat-river" because of its width. And there is no doubt that boatfishing with 3 rods rowed from side to side by local rowers was effective. We looked forward to try boatfishing, but we also looked forward to try flyfishing from land, as we do in river Gaula. Namsen is a very big river, so it can be difficult from land when you cast your fly 20-30 meters, and still its 100 meters to the other side of the river. But anyway, we know that a lot of salmon choose the easiest way up the river, and we looked really forward to begin fishing.
Sven Åge showed us zone 4, this is one several great zones on Jørem for fishing from land, and it was in zone 4 we were going to debut as Namsen-fishermen. Zone 4 is a great spot who has a smooth uniform flow, and offers great conditions for flyfishing.
The river was about 80 m/3 when we fished there, so we used rods in class 8/9 and 9/10. It was no problem to fish with a 13-14´ rod on this water level. I am never going to forget this experience; I started fishing at the top of the stretch and Steffen started fishing in the middle of our river stretch. I saw a big stone within a length I could cast to. Behind this stone the river was a fine stream with two stream edges, and I was sure that it swam salmon there! On my third cast I thought my first Namsen-salmon was hooked! I had put on a fly called Granbokorhva and my lines were a 3D F/2/4, so this was a complete usual Gaula-tackle.
I lost this salmon immediately, but the mood was now on top and I completely forgot time and place.
Is it possible? First time in a new river and already on my third cast I was accepted by the Namsen-salmon. I was really exited about my fourth cast! My fly landed precisely where I wanted it to land, the stream took it under water, I felt the salmon picking in my fly in several seconds, and in the end I had to take aggregate, but then it was gone. I was now in really in my own world. I changed fly and tried another time. I tried with higher speed on my fly this time.
But I did not have time to cast my first cast before my son yelled our familiar cry when he had caught a salmon; "Hængen!" I had to see twice before I believed him. Is it possible? We had contact with salmon already three times in fifteen minutes after we started fishing! This looked good! It was not easy to leave my salmon behind the stone, but I had take photos and experience this with Steffen. Steffen was fishing with 3D line F/1/2 and a fly called "Filmtuba", that's an ordinary Gaula combination as well! This salmon was carefully released; it was a great grilse, about 3 kg. What a start! Steffen caught another grilse here a bit later on the day, and we decided that we wanted to fish more at zone 4!
Even in Namsen we don't need to wade deep.
We had a lot of great experiences on this trip, and I really enjoyed the different spot we were fishing by. The most exiting fishing was when Sven Åge drove the boat in the middle of the river and anchored the boat. It was really exiting to have water all around you and fish in two deep runs were the salmon might passed. This was a great spot for usual rod fishing!
We had a very good time at Jørem! The farm and the fishing field is located in a great spot of Namdalen. We made coffee by the river and we enjoyed our life as salmon fishermen in great and sunny weather. We enjoyed the house, and Jenny and Sven Åge is some very nice landowners who offered a lot of great experience and comfort. Some times in life you come to places where you don't want to travel from! And Jørem, Jørem is a place like that!
Jørem vald. The field is located about 20 miles from the sea, and the field is about 4 km long. It is divided into 4 zones. You can fish in 2 zones one day, and the other 2 zones next day, and so on. They know local rowers who know where the salmon is, and they can guide you if you want. The biggest salmon, who ever is caught in Namsen, is caught at Jørem. Jenny and Sven Åge is selling short time fishing, fishing with accommodation and food. Jenny works full-time with the salmon fishing and makes sure that her guests get a nice and comfortable stay. They also rent out their house to hunters and businesses.
If you want to stay for three days, or a whole fishing week, contact Jenny! She helps you planning your sty with them!

Steffen caught another grilse, this time from the boat. But this was a typical grilse-season, so we are heading back to Namsen on a later opportunity to try catch the big salmon!
Thanks to Jenny and Sven Åge for the summer's best fishing experience, we´ll be back!
