The fly box for medium river levels - coloured water.

You can read about my fishing experiences for "Medium sized rivers" in the menu "Fishing". The fly box for these conditions with coloured water is not very different from "Summer - high water", there are only 2 main differences. The first and most important difference is: the flies are smaller, as this water level will occur just before or just after a summer flood and then the water temperature will higher and the river is not as high. The other difference is that I have swapped the Flomtuben pattern with a pattern called Oransje Trebelen, this is a pattern I have developed myself and this fly was first created in 1990, so this is a pattern I have strong feeling for. In the right conditions the salmon just cannot refuse this fly. I have modernised the pattern quite a bit, the original pattern was tied using woollen thread and bucktail hair. Today I tie it using modern materials. The biggest salmon caught in medium river level conditions on a single-handed fly rod weighed 13,2 kilos, this happened in Orkla in 1991, and last year it gave me yet another great salmon in medium water levels following a summer flood. The fly is tied on a treble hook, I feel this hook makes for a great action in the water with a wing this long. I use hook sizes 4 and 6, Kamazan B380.
